IKIGAI: Finding Light Within the VoidThe concept for IKIGAI began with a profound conversation with its producer Sandee Chan. In recent years, my work has gravitated toward the theme of "Micro-forces" — which is a response to the occasional helplessness of life and a persistent desire to remind myself and others: light exists even within the darkest times.
The Design Concept: An Immersive Search
"When the world is shrouded in darkness, a tiny point of light flickers. That is IKIGAI — the exit that leads us to hope."
Starting from this premise, I wanted to create a hidden light—one that requires exploration to be found. The unboxing experience is designed as a journey of discovery:
The Void
The exterior is a minimalist, all-black magnetic box with no printing, save for the artist's name subtly marked in matte black foil on the side.
The Instruction
Upon opening, the interior is empty, except for silver-foiled instructions.
The Interaction
Like Alice eating the "Eat Me" cookie in Wonderland, you must follow the prompts. After peeling back layers of black lyric books and sleeves, you find a single battery.
The Awakening
Only when you manually install the battery does the "IKIGAI" exit sign light up—a literal manifestation of finding your way out of the dark.
Inside the lyric book, the darkness gives way to vast brightness, featuring Aaron’s personal ten "Ikigai" and intimate photography. The CD itself is a soft gradient, hidden within a black sleeve—a final surprise for those who persist in the search.
